LOCTITE 406 – Fast-Bonding Instant Adhesive for Plastics & Rubber
LOCTITE 406 is a one-component, low-viscosity cyanoacrylate instant adhesive specially developed for fast bonding of plastics, rubber and elastomeric materials. It forms an ultra-thin adhesive film and provides rapid fixture, making it suitable for applications where components need to be assembled quickly.
Its very low viscosity allows the adhesive to penetrate and bond closely fitting surfaces and small bond gaps. LOCTITE 406 cures through atmospheric moisture and is supplied ready to use without mixing.
Key Features of LOCTITE 406:
Very fast fixture on plastics and rubber
Low-viscosity formulation for tight-fitting components
Clear, liquid cyanoacrylate adhesive
One-part adhesive—no mixing required
Suitable for plastic, rubber and elastomer bonding
Excellent for small bond gaps
Can be used with LOCTITE SF 770 primer for difficult-to-bond plastics such as PP, PE and PTFE
Typical operating temperature range: -40°C to +120°C
Gap fill capability: approximately 0.12 mm
Typical viscosity: approximately 20 mPa·s
LOCTITE 406 Applications:
LOCTITE 406 is particularly suitable for industrial assembly and maintenance applications requiring rapid bonding.
Typical applications include:
Bonding rubber components
Bonding plastic parts
EPDM rubber bonding
Sealing or bonding closely fitting components
Small component assembly
Gasket and elastomer assembly
Electrical and electronic component assembly
Appliance and industrial component manufacturing
Repair and maintenance applications
Henkel specifically identifies LOCTITE 406 for bonding elastomeric and plastic materials, including rubber and EPDM

How to Use LOCTITE 406:
1. Clean the surfaces
Remove oil, grease, dust and other contaminants. Henkel recommends using an appropriate LOCTITE cleaner for surface preparation.
2. Apply primer when required
For difficult-to-bond plastics such as PP, PE and PTFE, LOCTITE SF 770 primer can be used to improve adhesion
3. Apply LOCTITE 406
Apply a small amount of adhesive to one of the surfaces. Because the product has very low viscosity, only a small quantity is generally required.
4. Assemble immediately
Bring the components together and hold them in position until the adhesive fixtures.
5. Allow full curing
Although rapid fixture is achieved, the adhesive continues to develop its final properties after initial bonding.
Why Choose LOCTITE 406?
LOCTITE 406 is a good choice when speed, low viscosity and plastic/rubber compatibility are important. Its rapid fixture and ability to form a thin adhesive layer make it particularly useful for close-fitting components and high-speed assembly processes.
For difficult-to-bond plastics, using the appropriate primer can further expand its application range.
